Save the Date: TASA 2019 Annual Business Meeting

The TASA business meeting is a time to plan for future TASA programs and to have show and tell with each other textiles members have acquired or made during the year.  Last year we had a fund raising sale of ethnic textiles as well.

  1. Dear TASA,

My name is Margaret Growe, and one of your members recommended at the Blue Ridge Fiber Festival (BRFF) last weekend that I contact you about my and my husband’s handwoven cotton sustainability program in West Bengal, India. She was certain (and excited!) that you and TASA will want to know about this effort to save the ancient art of hand-weaving cotton Gumchas in the rural villages of northeastern India. The program triples the income of the weavers, hopefully helps save the cottage industry from obsolescence, and allows the farmer-weaver families to send more of their children to school.

Our service area has been acknowledged since the 3rd Century B.C. as the home of the master cotton weavers of the Subcontinent. The traditional color palette and thousands of Gumcha designs have been inherited by these subsistence farmer-weavers generationally from out of the mists of time.

We would love to come to Atlanta to present the Gumchas and our program to your group, as recommended by the lovely TASA member at BRFF. Please see our website at for details, and contact us to see how we might work together to forward both of our great missions! We look forward to hearing from you.

    Margaret & Roger Growe

P.S. I am also going to pop this note in the mail to the contact address on your website for Anne Godsey. TY! 🙂
